dude, Malachy McCourt in politics (or not)

from simply a mad-tante

Okay, my “knowledge” of Mr. McCourt was that he frequented either Dick Cavet, Johnny Carson, or Mike Douglas when I was a kid.  And to tell the truth, he played the king in the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups commercials and that was probably far more important to me then.

Many years later, I realised that he had a rather famous brother (Mr. Frank McCourt, who you may know as an author or professor Angela’s Ashes and more).  I’ve been tripping down Memory Lane and googled WeeblePeople (I couldn’t find a link that was interesting enough, although I did link earlier to a crappy photo) and I was looking up Mr. McCourt, too.  I’ve not made the rounds through Paul Lynde, Ruth Buzzy, and the Match Game…

Anyway, when what to my wondering eyes should appear but Long Island for Malachy!  Hey, hey and hippety ho!  I’ve voted Green Party, Libertarian, Democrat, and Republican — not in that order.  In elementary school, I was the kid most into the Presidential election for 1980.  I “ran” the mock campaign for Anderson.  Hell, I’m still with John.  I was pretty odd for a kid, I’m told by my friends, to have been that into politics.  In the interest of full disclosure, I was a supporter of NAFTA in late high school and early college.  Sorry about that.  I was wrong; it sounded good at the time.

He (Mr. McCourt) does a pretty rousing (prepare yourself if you’re a war-lover or sensitive to those who are peace mongers) “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” rendition.
