Why vote?

How do you feel, when you go into the voting booth on election day, and you find that there is only one candidate on the ballot?Doesn’t it make you feel trapped?

Doesn’t it seem suspicious?

Don’ t you wonder if it could possibly be that there is only one person who is qualified to do the job, and only one person who wanted a chance to send his resume to “the people”? Always seems unlikely to me. And, I wonder, “What is up?”.

If you don’t want the horrible, sinking feeling, like you have no choice, like our democracy has sunk…you need to do work BEFORE election day. If you are in Suffolk County, the time is now! Right now, you have to collect signatures and sign petitions, or you will have NO CHOICE for Suffolk County Executive.

This is what Democracy looks like: People who realize that being a voter is not like being a consumer. You have to do some organizing and struggle beforehand, or the big guys will define your choices. (And, sometimes, they will have the audacity to give you NO CHOICE!)

More about the dilemma in Suffolk County:

Ian just did the research. We suspected it, but weren’t sure. It is true:

In Suffolk County, in the Suffolk County Executive “contest”, not only will there only be one person on the ballot so far. But, the incumbent will be on five different lines!

Suffolk County Steve Levy has somehow managed to get endorsed by: The Democrats; The Republicans; Working Families; The Conservative Party; and The Independence Party.

One can only wonder how one does that. I find it hard to believe that out of the hundreds of thousands of people in Suffolk County, Steve Levy is the only person who truly wants to do the job, and the only person qualified to do the job. Just a tad unbelievable.

If you do not want to be faced with the choice of ONE PERSON on the ballot on election day, November 6th, you have to take action now.

Ahmad Ali Mitchel-el, is an independent, citizen candidate, seeking to run on the Green Party line for Suffolk County Executive. As an independent, he will need 1,500 signatures, just to get on the ballot. If you could sign for him, that would be wonderful. You could print out a petition, have another registered voter witness and sign your signature, and mail it back to the Green Party. Or, better yet, you could help out a lot by going to supermarkets or music festivals, and collecting signatures from other people.

If you would be willing to help, please contact The Green Party of Suffolk at
(631) 351-5763.

Or, if you want to get started on your own, here are the forms to start petitioning right away:
