Green Party Election Round-up 2007

Wins, possible wins and accomplishments in 2007:

Win!: Green Party candidate John Anton won his race for Portland, Maine City Council. Anton finished first of 4 candidates for 2 at-Large seats with 6,320 votes or 29.04%.

Probably win!: In Albany, New York, David Lussier is winning on the Green Party line. Evidently, after the machine vote, Lussier has a 5 vote lead over his opponent, Brian Scavo. Lussier’s campaign was told that the paper and absentee ballots would be counted next Wednesday. (Word from a green list-serve is that David Lussier did have a campaign plan where he appealed to absentee voters.)

* update: 11/15/2007 On the recount, David Lussier lost by 11 votes.

Win!: Green Party candidate Allan Brison won for Alderman in New Haven, CT.

Win!: Green Party candidate Jean DeSmet won for First Selectmen of the Town of Windham. Information posted to the national, Green Party list-serve:

>From Michael Westerfield:
Connecticut Green Party member and co-chair Jean deSmet won the

election for First Selectman of the Town of Windham, Connecticut...

AT 9:30 with all voting districts reporting

and absentee ballots counted, Jean was 120 votes ahead

of the Democratic candidate and very far ahead of the Republican.

Accomplishment: Green Party candidate Josh Reubner has a good showing, sets up community dialogue on housing…
From the report of a Virginia delegate to the national Green Party list-serve:
In Virginia, Green Party candidate Josh Reubner got 5.64% of the vote for Arlington County Board. This was a 5 way race for 2 seats (2 dems, 2 reps, Josh). Josh got over 10%. While Reubner did not get elected this time, he is bringing many county issues to the forefront including affordable housing and recycling in the parks.

Next November there will be a referendum on the ballot next year for the creation of a County Housing Authority. This was largely due to Josh’s efforts at bringing the issue to the county.

According to most of the press, Josh won every debate. The Washington Post even mentioned him bringing issues to light (even though they did not endorse him).

Go Greens!
