EnergyNet jobs & legislation

Jobs available

The UCS Clean Energy program is hiring for three positions–an analyst in our California office, an energy modeler in our Cambridge, MA office, and a transmission advocate in our Washington, DC office. We also will have a policy internship available in our DC office starting in May.  Here are the job descriptions.

Current Campaigns

Key Renewable Energy Tax Credits
UCS is working to extend key renewable energy tax credits that will expire at the end of 2008. Uncertainty about the renewable energy production tax credit and the solar investment tax credit is already jeopardizing the development of new wind farms, solar installations, and geothermal projects—and the jobs they create. A vote on the tax credits, included as part of the Senate Finance Committee’s Stimulus Plan, is expected very soon. Please call your senators and tell them that extending the tax credits for renewable energy, as a source of new investment and jobs, should be done as part of the stimulus package. Click here to look up your senators’ phone numbers.

National Renewable Electricity Standard
As you’ve probably heard, opposition from a few senators and the White House stripped the national renewable electricity standard from the energy bill that passed in December. But we continue to work with our coalition and champions in congress to pass a renewable electricity standard at least as strong and high as the one passed by the House—mandating that utilities acquire 15 percent of their energy from renewable sources by 2020, and allowing utilities the option to meet about a quarter of their requirement with energy efficiency. As EnergyNet members, many of you helped to build support for the standard by calling, writing, and even meeting with your legislators. I deeply appreciate all your help and look forward to working with you again on the continuing campaign.
