Family of slain Ecuadorean man to attend trials
by Bart Jones

The family of Marcelo Lucero said Wednesday they have been granted visas to travel from their native Ecuador to Long Island to attend the trials of seven teenagers accused in the killing of the Ecuadorean immigrant in what Suffolk police called a hate crime.

Isabel Lucero, Marcelo’s sister, said in a telephone interview from Gualaceo, Ecuador, that she and her mother, Rosario, received the one-year visas on Tuesday from the U.S. Consulate in the capital of Quito.

They plan to travel in mid-February so they can attend a court date scheduled for Feb. 18…

All eyes are on Suffolk County. Justice and not “just us” is what’s needed.
