Greetings from Shinnecock.

We are all looking forward to Saturday’s basketball game between the Harlem Magic Masters and the Shinnecock All Stars. “Museum Magic: Hoops for History,” will be held on March 21, at 7 p.m., at Southampton High School to benefit the Shinnecock Nation Cultural Center and Museum.

In addition to bringing the Southampton communities together to share our Native culture in this evening of family fun, funds raised from the event will be used to promote and enhance the museum’s educational programs, which benefit all communities.

The Harlem MagicMasters toured Southampton schools this week to promote the game and get the children all riled up in anticipation. We recall that when the team visited in October, they presented an interactive and entertainingly witty display of their amazing skills. At Saturday’s game we expect plenty more opportunities for participation, game giveaways, and autographs from team members.

The museum will display a preview of its maritime exhibit and indigenous arts and crafts during half-time, and some of us, adorned in regalia, will dance and sing to welcome our guests…traditional Native foods including homemade blueberry slump and fry bread will still be for sale, along with hot dogs, chips and soda.

Tickets are: $10 for adults and $8 for children age 5 to 12 in advance; OR  $12 for adults and $10 for children at the door. No charge for children under 5. Call the museum at 287-4923 to purchase tickets or for more information. www.shinnecockmuseum.org
