+ Fri July 24  Inter-Media Arts Center (IMAC) Celebration Strunz & Farah Dynamic guitar duo Jorge Strunz and Ardeshir Farah, from Costa Rica and Iran respectively, fuse Latin American and Middle Eastern music, creating a unique form of “ethnojazz.” The exotic style they originated in 1979 is now widely followed, but they remain the undisputed masters of the form they created.  They have collaborated with artists like Ruben Blades and L. Subraminiam, and worked with Sting on the album The Living Sea: Soundtrack from the IMAX Film as session musicians.  Opening Act: Christopher Borger A special evening for IMAC with Christopher Borger and other special guest artists Borger, a 12-year-old Wantagh native, is the “Got Talent? Long Island” winner of the Huntington Arts Council’s competition. His powerful voice and performance will wow you the way it wowed the judges and audience this past spring.  He will be joined by Crystalyn Wynter for a duet. Crystalyn is a “Got Talent? Long Island” finalist.

+ Sat July 25 Paging Grace: An emotionally charged, crowd-pleasing foursome, this band has played to sold-out crowds at venues up and down the East Coast. These Long Islanders, voted Best Band in Long Island Press in both 2008 & 2009, will knock your socks off with their stage presence.

This singer/guitarist/composer is a creative performer who plays to the crowd: often he will construct a song from ideas that children call out. People of all ages find themselves singing and dancing along with his charming voice and engaging songs. He is an original member of the Imagination Workshop Band, a performance group that grew out of the Children’s Museum of the Arts in Manhattan. Sponsored by Arrow Electronics (Tues Family Nights 7:30pm)

+ Thurs July 30 Doc Marshalls With influences ranging from traditionalists like Buck Owens and Johnny Cash to innovators like Gram Parsons and Dwight Yoakam, this Brooklyn-based band delivers an honest, unflinching honky tonk sound with a raucous set of Cajun and Zydeco thrown in for good measure. Wildly energetic roots music. Sponsored by Philips-Boyne

+ Fri July 31 Christine Ohlman: The current long-time vocalist with the Saturday Night Live Band,” this queen of blue-eyed rock n’ soul teased her hair into a beehive in honor of Ronnie Spector, picked up a guitar and forged a career as a songwriter in the process. She sang at SNL’s 25th Anniversary telecast, Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary bash at The Garden, and the Central Park Summerstage Tribute to Janis Joplin. Bossa Nova Beatniks, Opening Act: One of the most unique and original bands in New York, Bossa Nova Beatniks played CBGBs until it closed. Huntington resident and bandleader Tom Gould’s songwriting constantly re-invents the band, who put on an edgy, downtown, infectious live performance. Don’t miss this one!

+ Sat Aug 1 Peter Rowan: This skilled singer/songwriter and accomplished musician was a rhythm guitarist and lead singer with Bill Monroe and his Blue Grass Boys. Rowan is such a versatile musician that he has been in bands doing folk-rock as opening act for the Doors, recorded with Jerry Garcia, worked in a rock-fusion group whose records were produced by George Martin, and a Tex-Mex band with accordion player Flaco Jimenez. The Rowan Brothers, Opening Act: Chris & Lorin Rowan perform songs that are laced with tight harmonies, haunting melodies and underscored by crisp guitar, mandolin and steel guitar picking. The songs are based in rock & roll, but have an intricate interweaving of vocal harmonies and chords reminiscent of The Beatles. 8:30pm Check out the Folk Music Society of Huntington’s website www.FMSHNY.org for details on events occurring earlier in the day around the Heckscher Park Gazebo; bring your voice, instruments and friends!
