Green Party cand Jill Stein for MA Governor update

Jill Stein

Jill Stein

from Jill Stein:

It’s been less than a month since we kicked off our campaign, and the groundswell of support from people around the state in those three weeks has been amazing! Every day, we hear from supporters from across the Commonwealth, people who share the vision for a fundamental political change that this campaign is offering. We’ll be on the road again this weekend, visiting the western part of the state (see schedule below), so if you haven’t come out yet to introduce yourself, here’s your opportunity. We plan to be visible all over the state in the coming months, talking to people about the issues that affect them, and offering solutions that we know will work – but which are being kept off the table by the current political establishment in Massachusetts.

Which brings us to the Massachusetts Competitive Partnership. This organization, as detailed in Sunday’s Boston Globe (“14 CEOs unite to make business heard…”), is comprised of the heads of the state’s biggest corporations. Their goal: to exercise even more influence than they already do over the policies that control economic development, education, and tax policy in our state. According to the group’s co-founder and chairman, Suffolk Construction CEO John Fish, “there’s been a dilution in the business voice in the Commonwealth.”

Good grief! What planet has he been living on? The business voice has been speaking so loud it’s drowning out all the others. And did he miss the Supreme Court decision guaranteeing that corporations will have virtually unlimited power to buy elections in the future?

As I stated in my response to the article, which was sent yesterday to every news outlet in the Commonwealth and which you will find a link to below, the modern corporate-government complex has created the mess we’re currently in. From Wall Street bailouts to massive layoffs, predatory mortgages, skyrocketing health care costs and Big Dig boondoggles – the consequences of policy by influence-peddlers has been a disaster. Taxes are being shifted from corporations to working families. Public education is being privatized. Health care is run to steer money into private pockets, not to give people the care they need. The climate is heading for meltdown. We’ve gotten massive Big Dig cost overruns and lots of ongoing “Little Digs” that raise our taxes. These problems are not going to be solved by a shadow government that huddles in secret with the people who got us into this mess.

These problems will be solved by taking our government back from lobbyists and insiders so it serves people for the long haul, not short term profits for the few. That’s the work we’ve set out for ourselves, and we’re happy that so many other people are standing up alongside us.

Thanks.

Upward,
Jill

Deval Patrick is facing a tough re-election bid. He’s being challenged from the left and the right. Among the candidates is Green-Rainbow Party Candidate Jill Stein. ‘I’m not a politician, and I’m not a part of the Beacon Hill system, I’m a medical doctor and a mother,’ said Stein in an interview with abc40 and Fox 6 recently. … [She] says her first priority is jobs.
