Maryland Green Party Shocked and Saddened
by the Loss of Natasha Pettigrew

September 21, 2010

The Maryland Green Party is shocked and saddened by the loss of Natasha Pettigrew, the party’s 2010 nominee for United States Senate. Natasha had been fatally injured when her bicycle was struck early Sunday morning and has passed away as a result of her injuries.

“As a party, we have never experienced a loss like this,” said Brian Bittner, party Co-Chair. “We all looked forward to working with Natasha for years to come.”

Pettigrew was on leave from her studies at the University of Miami to run for the seat currently held by Senator Barbara Mikulski. “Natasha was a bright, hardworking young woman who had talked to many Maryland voters as a candidate and meant much to many Marylanders as a person. She had incredible potential as a future leader for this party and this state.”

“Natasha’s intellect and charisma impressed everyone she met,” said Karen Jennings, party Co-Chair. “We’ll never know what great things could have come from this bright young woman.”

Funeral arrangements are not known at this time. Natasha’s mother, Kenniss Henry, is planning to hold a memorial vigil later this week.
The Maryland Green Party will post details on its website –www.mdgreens.org – as they are finalized.

According to the Maryland State Board of Elections, the Green Party may name a candidate to replace Natasha in the U.S. Senate race. The state party Coordinating Council will make a decision regarding a possible replacement by early next week.
