[Police and corrections officials said:] About nine hours after being convicted of first-degree murder and facing possible life in prison, Herve Jeannot hanged himself Tuesday night in his cell at the Nassau County jail…

(excerpt from) a Wednesday evening Newsday story:

…Jeannot’s suicide is the third this year in Nassau, officials said.

In the last five years, four inmates killed themselves in Nassau and five in Suffolk, according to the state Commission of Correction, which investigates inmate deaths…
