About the video:

“Golden Calf at Occupy Wall Street”

Occupy Wall Street was greeted with a Golden Calf named “Greed”. A group of interfaith activists and religious leaders marched with the giant, golden statue, as a counterpoint to “Charging Bull”, the Wall Street Bull. On the side, it read “False Idol”. Yesterday, as Kimberly and Ian Wilder took a break from the occupation, and were heading away from Liberty Square, they encountered this march headed for Liberty Square at about 3:15pm on Sunday, October 9, 2011. Many of the signs say “Jesus is with the 99%”. And, there was at least one sign from a radical Jew.

There is an excellent article about this interfaith march at ABClocal…The article also notes that one protester was arrested Sunday night for trying to sleep on Wall Street proper.

Local religious leaders join Wall Street protest
October 9, 2011

…Religious leaders from mosques, synagogues and churches in our area came to Zuccotti Park, they say not to support the Occupy Wall Street protesters, rather because they too are part of this movement.

“There can be no such thing as justice until there is economic justice,” Rev. Michael Ellick of Judson Memorial Church said.

Rev. Ellick led the procession.

The group carried a golden calf, they say a symbol of our spiritual poverty, a false idol…

Background on the Golden Calf from Wikipedia:

According to the Hebrew Bible, the golden calf (עֵגֶּל הַזָהָב ‘ēggel hazâhâḇ) was an idol (a cult image) made by Aaron to satisfy the Israelites during Moses’ absence, when he went up to Mount Sinai. The calf was intended to be a physical representation of the God of Israel, and therefore was doubly wrong for involving Israel in idolatry and for ascribing physicality to God.

In Hebrew, the incident is known as ḥēṭ’ ha‘ēggel (חֵטְא הַעֵגֶּל) or “The Sin of the Calf”.
