Wikileaks’ Assange to Run for Australian Senate Seat
Saturday, March 17, 2012 by Common Dreams Staff

Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has decided to run for a seat in the Australian senate next year.

Wikileaks made the announcement on Twitter yesterday. It Tweeted shortly after that the group would be fielding a candidate to run against Prime Minister Julia Gillard in her home seat.

Assange, who is an Australian citizen, [and a whistle-blower against war and war crimes] is currently under house arrest in England facing possible extradition to Sweden…

Onthewilderside Julian Assange tribute video and comments at the jump…

KW: Running for office is a great strategy for people such as Julian Assange. Assange is a political prisoner. By running for office, he assures that the government (and/or the global elite) cannot “disappear” him. He is using the platform and visibility of an election to demonstrate public support. Julian Assange’s strategy reminds me of Eugene Debs running for President from his prison cell.

I wish Julian Assange luck. I also wonder if he will run as an independent or with a specific political party? It would be very exciting if Julian Assange ran with a third party.
