KW writes: Not sure everyone will get the extreme comedy of the fact that Brookhaven National Labs [BNL], in Eastern Suffolk County, is holding an “Earth Summit”. Brookhaven National Labs has a history of being a bad neighbor. And, they currently use nuclear technology that threatens the health of Long Islanders. Who would even want to step foot on their grounds? How can they dare to hold an environmental summit, when they have been the perpetrators of such environmental dis-information?

If you want to learn more about the history of Brookhaven National Labs, you may want to start with this excellent book from a woman who grew up nearby: Welcome to Shirley: A Memoir from an Atomic Town

If you are against nuclear energy, and against the idea of radiation research in a highly populated, residential area, then consider going to this demonstration to shine a light on the green-washing happening at BNL! Suffolk County is not the woods anymore, like it was when BNL was started. It is time to shut down BNL’s Nuclear Power Research Division here on Long Island.

As green activist Peter Maniscalco notes: “An Earth Summit at BNL is nuts! Let’s protest!”
