“Occupy Everywhere”: May Day Special Show on OWS, Immigration, Labor Protests

Democracy Not!, the War and War report again reports on the Corporate War Party candidates attempts to out-do each other in wrapping themselves in Osama bin Laden’s dead body as they ignore the two presidential candidates who support the Occupy/May Day actions.  Green Party presidential hopefuls, Roseanne Barr and Jill Stein, both have been supporters of OWS.  Barr spoke at the first day of Occupy Wall Street.  Roseanne’s May Day press release is below.  Dr. Jill Stein is spoke at May Day events and has been appearing at Occupy events.  Stein’s  May Day statement is below.

As Occupy Wall Street plans nationwide protests marking International Workers’ Day, or May Day, we discuss the movement with Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, Chris Hedges; Amin Husain, editor of Tidal magazine and a key facilitator of the Occupy movement; Marina Sitrin, author of “Horizontalism: Voices of Popular Power in Argentina” and a member of Occupy’s legal working group; and Teresa Gutierrez of the May 1st Coalition for Worker and Immigrant Rights. We also get an update from protests on the streets of New York City from Ryan Devereaux, former Democracy Now! correspondent, now with The Guardian.

Green Party Presidential Candidate Roseanne Barr was the First and Only Presidential Candidate to Address the Activists at OCCUPY WALL STREET and SUPPORTS THE MAY DAY STRIKE

Green Party Presidential Candidate, Roseanne Barr supports Occupy Wall Street’s call for a Nationwide Strike on May 1.
The Occupy Movement has called for No Work, No School, No Banking, No Shopping, No Chores and Taking to the Streets for a full day of Direct Actions.

On September 17th, 2011, Ms. Barr visited Occupy Wall Street during their first day of Direct Action and addressed the crowd there.

Ms. Barr’s heartfelt address to the crowd at Occupy Wall Street made it very clear that she does not want to hide behind nebulous memes and campaign slogans, but would rather encourage and advance people towards real change as she completely understands the plight of the 99%.

• “There is no Liberty without Truth.”
• “We will simply combine Capitalism with Socialism and create People-ism.”
• “The Bankers and the Fed need to be brought down. They have stolen our
money, our future and the American Dream and continue to enslave us with a broken monetary system. There is no scarcity, there is manipulation of the resources. We need to end the wars, bring our troops home and our jobs back, create new Green jobs and put people back to work. We need a resource based economy.”

Some of the first issues that the Occupy Movement unified under were Economic Justice, more Jobs, a Living Wage, the end to Foreclosures and the far reaching control of the Banks which has created an even wider rift of economic disparity affecting many more people. The original movement of May 1st many years ago translates into the present day Occupy Wall Street.

Many Americans do not know the history of May Day also called International Industrial Worker’s Day. The Observation of this special day began here in the United States even though most Americans assume that this day is only celebrated in Communist and Socialist countries.

Those activists and patriots that organized events on this landmark day in the past were responsible for handing down many rights and laws in the workplace that we Americans now take for granted, such as establishing an 8 hour work day, abolishing child labor and mandating our present two day weekend.

Attorney, Activist and Political Prisoner Lynne Stewart wrote from prison today about May 1, 2012: “The only PROGRESS to be sought on May DAY 2012 by all of us is a unity of purpose, by truly believing that an injury to one is an injury to all and acting in self defense against the powerful, unscrupulous forces who seek to destroy our movement,” and “May Day is for the beginning of new offensives and we certainly have a vast choice — there is so much wrong, so much that needs fixing. We must band together until they are more afraid of OUR power than their greedy fear of losing their vast fortunes. This we Must do — our children and grandchildren assure us there is no choice, if there is to be a world for them to live and work and raise the next generations in.”

“We will compromise, adjust and make reasonable choices. We will have common sense solutions,” by Roseanne Barr.

Honor May Day with a tidal wave of solidarity

Right now, the entire world is celebrating May Day, also known as International Workers Day. Dr. Stein is campaigning in the southeast, and taking part in and speaking at May Day rallies in Florida. Back at campaign headquarters in Wisconsin, and also across the country, Jill Stein for President will be out in force today.

Today is the holiday for the 99%, and it feels great to witness it take root again in the country that transformed the traditional spring holiday of May Day into a celebration not only of wild nature, symbolized by green, but also of the liberation of human nature, symbolized by red.

Wherever you are, I hope you are celebrating this both American and international holiday. Here are a couple ways you can join us in celebrating:

 (1) If you took part in our Earth Day to May Day challenge, and made a donation pledge, it is time for you to complete that pledge by donating now: Just click here.

 (2) Put down your work, and go out into the streets to join the nearest May Day celebrations near you. Our friends at Media for the 99% are tracking May Day mobilizations here and you can also find information via Occupy Together here.
