Guantanamo: Hunger strike due to our governments cruelty

How much suffering and torture will our government inflict on innocent people?

There are some people being held at Guantanamo for 11 years with no charges. There are 86 people being held as prisoners at Guantanamo who are cleared to be returned to their home countries.

Democracy Now: Monday, April 29, 2013 update:

A story from Australia:
US response to Guantanamo Bay hunger strike is ‘huge’

US military authorities have played down the decision to send Navy medical reinforcements to Guantanamo Bay  and denied reports some inmates were “close to death”.Of the 166 prisoners in Guantanamo, 100 have now joined the strike which began on February 6 in response to an austerity crackdown and intensified into a protest about continued detention – 86 of the detainees have been cleared for release back to their home countries…

The report quoted a Guantanamo insider, “Zak”, who claimed the detainees had “lost hope” because “President Obama has no intention to close Guantanamo”.

Some of the prisoners have been in detention for more than a decade.

Moqbel said in his article: “I’ve been detained at Guantanamo for 11 years and three months. I have never been charged with any crime. I have never received a trial.

“Members of the US president’s own party have urged him to reconsider sending home the 86 detainees cleared for transfer up to three years ago…
