Green Party Presidential Primaries and Caucuses

The final decision about who receives the Green Party U.S. Presidential nomination will be made at the Green Party’s Annual National Meeting/Presidential Convention in Chicago, July 10th to July 13, 2008.

Though, some states do qualify to have a Green Party primary. And, those primaries will affect the outcome of the convention, and set some of the tone for the campaign to decide the nominee. Below are the states and dates for Green Party primaries. At the bottom are the lists of candidate choices, including who is standing in for who.

February 5th:

Arkansas Green Party Primary
California Green Party Primary
Illinois Green Party Primary (Note: This is an open primary, any voter can ask for a ballot for any party. Any voter can vote in the Green Party primary.)
Massachusetts Green-Rainbow Party Primary (Note: In MA, unenrolled voters are eligible to vote in the Green Party primary.)

February 12th:

D.C. Green Party Primary

There will also be various state caucuses, conventions, and planning meetings around the country. Will post here as information arises.

March 4:
Green Party of Minnesota Caucus

April 24 to May 10:
The Green Party of PA will hold a series of county caucuses

Massachusetts will have on their Green-Rainbow Party ballot: Jared Ball (withdrawn); Elaine Brown (withdrawn, some people suggesting as protest vote for support of diversity); Cynthia McKinney; Kent Mesplay; Ralph Nader; Kat Swift

Illinois will have on their Green Party primary ballot: Jared A. Ball (withdrawn); Cynthia McKinney; Kent Philip Mesplay, Howie Hawkins as a stand-in for Ralph Nader. NOTE: In Illinois, any voter can request a Green Party ballot. On election day, voters get to choose which party’s primary they can vote in.
