Some Diversity and Caucus updates

Ian and I are having so much trouble keeping up. I apologize that this update includes the meetings I had to attend, and some of what we are able to catch with the luck of passing by the correct meeting rooms.

The Diversity Committee had a very successful meeting. We spoke about directions moving forward.

The Disability Caucus had a small but productive meeting. I am in the Disability Caucus. We added 2 new members. (And, we only needed a few more to put us over 100. Keep recruiting!) And, we came up with a few, very good projects to propose to our full group. Also, people were excited to hear about an old project someone brought up, whose name alone enlightened us: “The Dis-Labeled” Caucus. I believe it was a California and/or Illinios phenomena. Though, I was shocked to hear that this group whose name I never remember hearing was supported by Joel Kovel, a green colleague from New York.

After the Disability Caucus, a man from Illinois Indy Media flagged some of us down to ask us to support efforts to educate the public about disabled Iraq War Veterans.

I heard that Polidoc productions was planning on attending the National Women’s Caucus yesterday. So, Polidoc may have more news from that.

The Black Caucus meeting looked well-attended. Gwen Wages, former GP-US Steering Committee member was in attendance, and a few new faces. (I ran into them at the end of their meeting, because it was in the same room as the Disability Caucus meeting.) As previously reported here, the Black Caucus will unanimously support former Congresswoman Cynthia McKinney for President. And, the Black Caucus has two “new greens” who will be their delegates. It will be an exciting and profound moment when these two people cast their vote for Cynthia McKinney!
