Prop 8 opponents plan [and another] Saturday protest

Update 11/13/2008: More protests planned for this Saturday, Nov. 15th in various cities around the country. A good web page is here at Join the Impact. Click on their dates and places links for more info.

Update: About ten thousand people showed up at each of the two biggest protests. And, more throughout California, where Prop 8 was passed. Article: here. Also, another article seemed to assure people that uncounted ballots could not affect the outcome. Though, there are 2.7 million uncounted ballots. Someone needs to get some election lawyers over to California…story: here.

Update:

I am not sure if these protests are happening at various cities in various times. But, there is still time to look up the CA ones, I believe, because a post at Indy Media -LA said that today’s (Saturday’s) demo in Los Angeles starts at 6pm.

Prop 8 opponents plan Saturday protest

SAN DIEGO – Proposition 8 opponents will march from Hillcrest to North Park Saturday to protest the passage of the measure that eliminates the right of same-sex couples to marry.

The march is scheduled to begin at noon at Third and University avenues and end at 30th Street and University Avenue, according to the No on Prop 8 campaign and the San Diego LGBT Center.

Similar events are scheduled throughout California over the weekend.

An anti-Proposition 8 protest Thursday resulted in the arrest of two people after a crowd of about 2,000 rallied outside the Los Angeles California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (The Mormons)…

[Evidently, some of the funding to support Prop 8 and ban same-sex marriage came from the Mormon Church]

  1. You must not support the democratic process. I should not have to support your position if I find morally objectionable. Marriage is between a man and a woman. I have no problem supporting civil unions. Your group is proposing blacklisting people who have supported this ban. At this point it is going to create a nasty backlash. A grassroot effort will be put into place to boycott advertisers of any program, movie, or event that has been supported by the people who have been against the ban.

  2. Oh, George…so it’s ok when the religious right decides to boycott Disney or McDonald’s for actually supporting Gay folks. Yet when the process is reversed it’s suddenly wrong?

If you find it morally objectionable, fine. Step aside and let us have the rights of other couples without voting for it. If you’d just let the courts have the final say, it would be over.
