Panelists Beth Fiteni (l) and Christie Brinkley: WISE conference

At the WISE conference about environmental sustainability in Southampton, New York, Christie Brinkley brought attention to information in press reports from March 26, 2009, that note there was a “more than minor” safety violation at the Millstone nuclear power plant in Connecticut. Ms. Brinkley expressed concern that the public may not have been told the entire story, and concern that the Nuclear Regulatory Commission did not catch the problem, which the plant itself says it caught and fixed.

Christie Brinkley expressed her total disagreement with nuclear energy, noting safety concerns, and the fact that the Better Business Bureau will not allow nuclear plants to describe their product as “good, clean energy.”

Christie Brinkley stated, “There is a movement trying to say that nuclear power plants are the answer to global warming and it’s just not true.” Ms. Brinkley has had extensive experience studying and advocating against nuclear energy in her work with STAR and with The Tooth Fairy Project (studying the extent and effects of radiation through collecting baby teeth.)

WISE: 1st New York Women’s Conference for Sustainability is taking place this weekend at Stony Brook’s Southampton campus. More photos below.

  1. It’s true that if we invested as much as we do in oil, coal and nuclear that we’d have a sustainable clean energy grid.

    • If you think wind and solar are the answer then you are condeming millions to die when the rolling blackouts come… they have a capacity factor of <30% and have MULTIPLE problems with location, storage, transmission, and maintanence. Nuclear is the only way forward and if you can't see that then step aside for smarter people.

  2. Do you know your insurance police states the following: “This policy does not cover loss or damage caused by nuclear reaction.” Go to Article by Laura Flanders & Tom Paine for more details at:
