In PA: Marakay Rogers running for judge as a Libertarian

from Green Party Watch

Ballot Access News reports that Marakay Rogers is running for the state wide office of Superior Court Judge on the Libertarian Party ticket. Independent Political Report has a lot of discussion about this transition.

In 2004, Marakay Rogers was the Green Party candidate for Attorney General in Pennsylvania. She won 70,624 votes (1.3%) in a 3 way race.

In 2006, Marakay Rogers submitted almost 100,000 signatures to be the Pennsylvania Green Party candidate for Governor. Democrats challenged her signatures along with Carl Rominelli’s and Ralph Nader’s. Because of the tens of thousands of dollars necessary to defend their petitions and the risk of bankruptcy if the courts were to rule against them, Rogers and her Lt. Gov. running mate withdrew their petitions and dropped out of the race.

“Pennsylvania’s grossly unfair ballot access laws, passed by Democrats and Republicans, should be considered a conspiracy against voters, limiting their choices on the ballot. Equally outrageous are the tactics that Pennsylvania Democrats are using to bar Greens, through legal and financial intimidation — proving that Democratic politicians are just as willing as Republicans to rig the ballot box,” said Marakay Rogers.

In 2008, she was the Libertarian Party candidate for Attorney General in Pennsylvania. She won 109,856 votes (1.9%) in that 3 way race. She has been actively involved with the “Outright Libertarians

I have not heard anything specifically about what moved Rogers from the Green Party to the Libertarian Party, but from everything I have read about Marakay Rogers she is an amazing fighter for rights, fairness, and third parties, and I hope she does well!

Marakay is running for statewide office in Pennsylvania. She is on the ballot for Superior Court Judge on the Libertarian Party line. Marakay is an attorney, so she could really fulfill the role of judge. More info and a photo at our previous story: here. […]
