GP Prez cand Cynthia McKinney featured at 12/12/09 Anti-war Rally

Cynthia McKinney

Our organization, End US Wars  (http://www.enduswar s.org)  is holding an Emergency Anti-Escalation Rally on Saturday, December 12 at Lafayette Park at the White House, 11am to 4pm.  Featured speaker: Cynthia McKinney. Green Candidate for Governor in Maine, Lynne Williams, will speak and is coming down by bus for the event with activists/supporters. Also speaking: Senator Mike Gravel, Chris Hedges, David Swanson, Betty Hall, Granny D (message) and others. We are very excited about so many illustrious speakers, with more in the offing. Also musicians!

We are planning a camera-ready leaflet to distribute at some of the events coming together between now and then, such as at the 5pm, Dec. 1 ‘happening’ at the White House, and Amy Goodman’s speaking event in DC on Nov. 30, plus other spontaneous activities now being discussed in the peace community. We expect a lot of action in DC around the time of his announcement; this is our opportunity to do mass leafleting for our rally on December 12th.

We began this effort by circulating our letter calling on Obama to refuse to escalate troop levels; and we received very strong support. If he did choose to escalate, we signers have committed to vigorously oppose him, with rallies and actions and other methods. Please respond at contact@enduswars. org to endorse our letter, which can be viewed on the website.

There are some requests we need to make to the Green Party members, in order to make this event have an impact. We need hospitality for our speakers, places to stay, hopefully a fundraiser party the evening before, also possibly a showing of Robert Greenwald’s film about Afghanistan, book signings for our author/speakers and other ways to promote this two-day event.

Mostly, however, we need funding. And help with leafleting and printing costs. And getting the word out. And supporters to turn out for this important rally. We expect to raise the message that the Green Party is not going to stand for the President’s abdication of the people he was elected to serve. We need to give him our answer: We have had enough!

Cynthia McKinney has been very supportive of our effort and we appeal to all of you to help make this event meaningful, as our actions must count now. This escalation must be resisted.
