Clark & Lawrence, Green US Senate Candidates, Join in Binghamton Nuclear Weapons Abolition

The only way that the Green Party can regain ballot status in NY is to get 50,000 votes for their Governor candidate in 2010. This opportunity comes only once every four years, and it only applies to the Governor’s race. Gaining ballot status will enable the Green Party to run more peace candidates, more single-payer candidates, more anti-fracking candidates, and more sustainable energy candidates. The last time that the Green Party of New York State had ballot status it set the record for running the most Green candidates of any state.

Green Party of New York State candidates for U.S. Senate, Colia Clark and Cecile Lawrence, attended the annual Hiroshima/Nagasaki memorial event in Binghamton, NY on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 7:00 a.m. The event was sponsored by Broome Peace Action.

Colia Clark

Ms. Clark, based in New York City, is visiting the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions of upstate New York as part of her campaign for U.S.
Senate. Both Clark and Lawrence are adamantly opposed to the existence of nuclear weapons and urge the U.S. to agree to the speedy and orderly elimination of its own nuclear weapon arsenal.

The current models of nuclear weapons are much more deadly than those dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and thus pose a threat to the very existence of the entire human race. Clark and Lawrence are firm in demanding that the taxpayer funds spent on these true weapons of mass destruction if not mass extinction must be diverted to addressing pressing current human needs for food, shelter, health care and education.

The Hiroshima/Nagasaki memorial event took place at the First Congregational Church in Binghamton, corner of Main and Front St.  Flying in from Japan to be at the memorial will be two women and two men representing Japanese peace groups who asked to come to the event. Binghamton is one of the international cities each year that recognizes the need to remember what happened at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Prof Herb Bix, noted Asian Historian will be speaking on the Hiroshima/Nagasaki Political Legacy to the United States.

Ringing of the bell in front of the church, the largest ground bell in Binghamton, took  place at 8:00 a.m. with Clark and Lawrence assisting with the ropes. Immediately after will be a walk or drive to Peace Park at the confluence of the Susquehanna and Chenango Rivers.

  1. Is the Green Party marching for the nuclear disarmament of the Russians, French and Chinese? The North Koreans and the Iranians?

The only thing I remember – ever – is them marching ONLY to disarm America. Or Israel.

If I am wrong on this scenario, I’d like to see the evidence.

  2. Yes, The Green Party wants worldwide nuclear disarmament. In fact, the origins of the Green Party are in the German anti-nuclear movement.

  4. Add your voice to the global call to abolish nuclear weapons, for good.

The MillionPleas.com campaign, an initiative of ICAN, aims to be the world’s longest video chain letter. It is addressed to the 9 countries that still have nuclear weapons.

ICAN is asking people from all over the globe to upload a video clip of themselves saying the word “please”. The “pleases” will then be edited into a long virtual chain letter, which will act as a petition to abolish nuclear weapons, worldwide.

The Million Pleas campaign marks the 65th anniversary of the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
