Not In Our Town: Light in the Darkness is a one-hour documentary about a town coming together to take action after anti-immigrant violence devastates the community. In 2008, a series of attacks against Latino residents of Patchogue , New York , culminate with the murder of Marcelo Lucero, an Ecuadorian immigrant who had lived in the Long Island village for 13 years.

Admission is free (Film + Discussion)  Followed by Reception:  $5 Donation 

Guest speakers will be Joselo Lucero, brother of Marcelo Lucero; Luis Valenzuela, Executive Director, LI Immigrant Alliance; Pat Young, Attorney with CARECEN and Hofstra Law School professor; Bill McNulty, LI SOA Watch Suffolk Coordinator; and  Mara Bard, LI SOA Watch Nassau Coordinator.

Documentaries like this allow us to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, to see the world from their perspective and can be a key catalytic factor in the promotion of the change in attitudes, feelings and policies.

While hate violence makes headlines, the positive actions of people across the country are creating a different story. They are part of a movement called Not In Our Town.
