An exciting panel of international speakers will address:
how women’s struggle for survival against poverty, war, inequality, environmental degradation, discrimination, and violence is at the forefront of movements for change.
An open discussion will follow the presentations. The event will be held on the eve of the “International Women in Religion in the 21st Century Conference” Oct 17-19 and organizers of both events will be exploring the possibility of collaborating on a 2007 conference www.womeninreligion2006.org
Speakers from Africa, India, the Middle East, the UK and Venezuela, including confirmed speakers:
Selma James – activist, author, strategist, international coordinator of the Global Women’s Strike
Dr. Azza Karam – Senior Policy Research Advisor, United Nations Development Program UNDP (New York). Formerly Director of Religions For Peace-Women’ s Program.
Ana Maldonado – is involved in the grassroots literacy and empowerment missions that are at the heart of women-led Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela.
Premilla Dixit– co-producer of Aint That Good News aired on WBAI radio, and member of the Women’s International League For Peace and Freedom/NY.
