“ANNUAL HOLIDAY PROGRAM”
‘IT IS THE BEST OF TIMES…IT IS THE WORST OF TIMES’
HOLIDAY PARTY, & SPEAKERS
at the
Bay Shore Public Library on Montauk Highway
AS WE CELEBRATE THE RITUALS OF CHRISTMAS, CHANUKAH, AND QWANZAA, VIOLENCE ESCALATES IN MANY HOMES ACROSS OUR NATION. THE EMOTIONAL AND ECONOMIC STRESSES OF THE SEASON OFTEN CAUSE AN UPSURGE OF INCIDENTS AND ABUSE IN RESPONSE TO THE PRESSURES.
WE ARE FORTUNATE TO HAVE TWO AGENCIES IN WESTERN SUFOLK COUNTY WHICH PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE SERVICES TO VICTIMS OF SEXUAL AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND WORK PROACTIVELY TO EDUCATE IN ORDER TO PREVENT THE ABUSE.
SUZANNE STAUB, COMMUNITY EDUCATOR, SUFFOLK COUNTY COALITION AGAINST DOMESTIC VIOLENCE, INC. (SCCADV); AND PHIL PASKOWITZ, VICTIMS INFORMATION BUREAU OF SUFFOLK, INC. (VIBS); WILL TELL US ABOUT THEIR AGENCIES’ SERVICES FOR VICTIMS AND THE EDUCATION THEY PROVIDE TO PUBLIC SCHOOL CHILDREN TO TEACH THEM THE PROPER WAY TO SPEAK TO AND TREAT ONE ANOTHER. THE SEXUAL HARASSMENT IN THE SCHOOL HALLS, UNADDRESSED, BECOMES THE ABUSE AND DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN ADULTS. TOPICS WILL INCLUDE DATING VIOLENCE, DATE RAPE, AND TEEN ABUSE.
REFRESHMENTS, RAFFLES, AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION, FREE.
