Got Kids NVC LI 4/27/08

“GOT KIDS?”

Conscious parenting in a crazy world

Day Long Parenting Class held at 936 Stewart Ave, Bethpage, NY on Sunday April 27th 2008, 9:30am to 5:30pm

NVC* offers three different areas of focus for parents as they shift their orientation to parenting:

a. Compassion – meeting challenges with compassion for oneself and for the child in place of judgments and demands (or punitive energy); understanding the needs underlying behavior
b.
Connection and trust – focusing on quality of connection in family relationships and building trust that everyone’s needs matter; enhancing security and interdependence
c. Living in a partnership paradigm – shifting fully from power-over to sharing power in families; turning power struggles into dialogue

All human beings have a need for power, yet adults have tremendously greater life experience and access to resources than children. Because of our sense of great responsibility for contributing to the safety and well being of our children, we tend to want to use this greater access to resources over our children instead of with our children.

NVC* offers a distinctly different approach focused on developing a partnership centered on consideration for everyone’s needs. It falls outside the permissive/coercive paradigms because it focuses on everyone’s needs, without relinquishing either parent or child.

Are frustration and anger making it painful to communicate with your children? Do some situations seem hopeless? Are you open to learning practical skills, developed to enhance your relationships?

This workshop is offered on a sliding scale of $85. to $125.
