We have finished the documentary film “A Union Man: The Life and Work of Julius Margolin” and are showing it on Friday, June 20 at 7:30 PM at Local 802 (Musicians’ Union), 322 W. 48th Street (between 8th and 9th Avenues) in the Club Room. This event will include a Q & A with Julius (who is approaching 92!) and a selection of labor/folk songs. It is appropriate for all ages and union members are encouraged to bring their children and grandchildren!
Julius Margolin, besides being a CIO and World War II veteran (National Maritime Union/Merchant Marine), is the oldest member of the New York City Central Labor Council, a singer-songwriter with several CDs under his belt, and a survivor of the McCarthy blacklist. He has dedicated his life to the fight for workers’ rights, equality for all, and for peace. This one-hour film features cameos by the great folksinger Utah Phillips (who recently passed away), Faith Petric, and former NMU Vice President Joe Stack, and tells the story of an average rank-and-filer who has done the hard work and been in countless struggles over the past 70 years.
