Please show that all Americans want due process and the rule of law to prevail. And, please keep Kilmar Abrego Garcia in your heart and on the minds of our elected officials. Wherever there is a blank on your voting ballot — a place where there is “no choice” or no good candidate — please write in: Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
Here in Riverhead, Long Island, New York, this Tuesday, May 2oth will provide a chance to apply this strategy to support our neighbor, Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who the Trump administration has admitted was deported in an “administrative error”, but who the administration will not be kind enough to bring back and save from El Salvador due to the error.
In Riverhead…
Write-in Campaign Announcement for Riverhead Schools:
Riverhead School District will have its budget and school board member vote on Tuesday, May 20th, 2025
There are only two (incumbent) board members running for two seats. It is a shame that there is no choice on the ballot. The lack of choice reflects school board policies about campaigning, and reflects injustices in our community.
Please write-in the two school board member slots:
Kilmar Abrego Garcia
and
Kimberly Wilder

Explanation:
The Riverhead Central School District recently put out a fairly good announcement about not allowing ICE into our school without the proper warrant. But, then…
Our school district even more recently made an unfair move to change the Code of Conduct with murky language about penalizing students with (perceived) gang colors or clothing. And, the Code of Conduct does not even state what colors. Instead, it leans on allowing a fluid change of the rules based on law enforcement info. This would be a big problem, because outdated information could cause a student to get in trouble for no reason.
Setting up this kind of mistake in identifying a student as gang-affiliated reflects the fact that our federal government deported Kilmar Abrego Garcia in error, and wrongfully and ignorantly deported people suddenly and without due process based only on having tattoos (in one case, the tattoo being an”autism awareness” tattoo.)
Voting for Kilmar Abrego Garcia as a write in will show the Riverhead Central School District that you want them to be progressive and fair in their policies. It will show them that you want supportive actions and safety measures to combat gang violence that emphasize positive efforts such as: expanding the Dual Language Program; offering after school programs; and helping older students graduate and/or return to graduate. These measures are much better than cruel and failed “security theater” measures or measures that could accidentally harm innocents, and especially students of color.
“Writing-in” Kilmar Abrego Garcia will influence the Riverhead Central School District school board to create better policies to address potential gang problems and keep all students safe.
Voting for Kilmar Abrego Garcia will also send a message that Americans want due process, Habeas Corpus, and the rule of law. It will show the current administration that democracy is deteriorating too quickly and we cannot have business as usual. It will assert that Americans want the current White House to honor an order of the Supreme Court to facilitate the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia from his erroneous deportation to El Salvador.
PS – All voting will happen ONLY at the Riverhead High School this year. That measure is another way that communities of color will have a more difficult time participating in the democratic process of running our school. Though, please do get yourself (and your neighbors?) to the polls.
