Gulf Coast: Chemical smell. Dead birds. Green Party of Florida asks for State of Emergency

Eleven oil rig workers have died in the April 20 explosion in the Gulf of Mexico. Now, there are dire consequences for the ecosystem, with oil gushing into the Gulf. There are reports of dead birds which could be a result of the oil spill. The Green Party of Florida has called on President Obama and Florida Governor Crist to declare an immediate State of Emergency for the Gulf Coast in response to the oil rig disaster. The Green Party of Florida believes that all available federal and state resources must be mobilized to protect threatened communities and wildlife habitats in four states.

Geologist Chris Landau wrote this opinion piece. “Probable Cause and Scenario that led to the oil disaster in The Gulf of Mexico, when Offshore Deepwater Horizon Oil Rig, owned by Trans Ocean Ltd., and contracted to BP, explodes burns and sinks. Do not let this happen in Santa Barbara. One oil disaster there is big enough. Stop the drilling for oil into the 3000 mile Santa Barbara Fault Zone.”
