Green Party responds to Obama: Mr. President, make health care a right for all Americans

The Green Party of the United States has released its rebuttal to President Obama’s speech before Congress on September 9, 2009, in which he encouraged US Representatives and Senators to support his health care reform plan. America needs Medicare For All/Single-Payer, not a life-support system for insurance companies and HMOs Whether Obamacare passes or the […]

Congressional “Progressive” Caucus does not want to hear why Single Payer is better than “Public Option”

Single Payer vs. Public Option Nick Skala was in a bit of shock. In early June, he was invited to speak before the Progressive Caucus of the House of Representatives about single payer health care. There are about 71 members of the House who belong to the Progressive Caucus — about a third of the […]

We’re Number 37 video.

h/t to my cousin Abby.    Here is a little song celebrating our position at #37 in the world in healthcare.

“California’s Real Death Panels” – Data Reveals California’s Private Insurers Deny 21% of Claims

“California’s Real Death Panels” – Data Reveals California’s Private Insurers Deny 21% of Claims President Obama begins his final drive for healthcare reform tonight with a nationally televised prime-time address to a joint session of Congress. His speech comes after an explosive August recess consumed by raucous town halls and talk of government-run “death panels.” […]

From Cynthia McKinney: How Did We Get From There to Here? [Dying While Black]

I have seen such betrayal and lack of principle in the current “health care” debate, I had no intention of getting into it. In our Power to the People campaign, I wrote a platform that included policy recommendations to eliminate all disparities still extant in our society, including for health care. A single-payer system is so obviously needed, it should be too politically costly for our Democratic majority in the Congress and our Democratic White House to do anything else. I recommended an end to war. I advocated public ownership of the Federal Reserve. I even anticipated the skullduggery of the bailouts and recommended that if the “powers that be” were intent on forcing Congress to give these bailouts to institutions that conducted what I would call criminal behavior, then at a minimum, a credible person like David Walker, former U.S. Comptroller, should audit all corporations and institutions receiving such funds. I suggested that Senator Obama use the power of his Senatorial pen to amend the bailout legislation to this effect. It didn’t happen.

Bill Moyers talks with Bill Maher about Healthcare video

Hmm . . . . The Democrats and Republicans are both dominated by corpoations that have kept us from being the only industrialized nation in the world without single payer universal healthcare. Wonder what a political party not dominated by corporate contribution would be like?

Obama’s White House: New ways to spy?

KW: I totally missed this story, even though it is a week and a half old. Thanks to Adam Kokesh, who is running for Congress in New Mexico, for bringing it to my attention at his candidate web-site. The main story below is about the White House and a tips line for health care disinformation. […]

The Green Party has taken a strong stand, based in experience, to reform our nation’s health […]

This Isn’t [Healthcare] Reform, It’s Robbery

Percentage change since 2002 in average premiums paid to large US health-insurance companies: +87%

Percentage change in the profits of the top ten insurance companies: +428%

Chances that an American bankrupted by medical bills has health insurance: 7 in 10

—Harper’s Index, September 2009

Health care: Change the discourse with your own demonstration

Instead of worrying about The Right showing up screaming against health care reform, these folks figured out what should probably have been done all along. People who believe in Single-Payer need to get loud and do some appearances at “moderate” and other “Obama-style” health care dog and pony shows. Excellent coverage–including video–of single-payer folks who […]

“Big Government” and the Health Care Crazies

Politics in this country is routinely described as a battle between liberals who want a larger role for government and conservatives who favor a smaller role. This framing is completely wrong, but the conservatives insist on using it because it helps advance their agenda. Liberals tend to accept it because they like to lose. In […]
