At 7pm on Wednesday, October 4, 2006, the Babylon Green Party will host a Long Island for Malachy! Get Out the Vote (GOTV) Postcard Party. Time to break out your campaign hats and address books. We’ll provide the postcards and you provide the addresses of your friends and relatives to let them know how important it is to vote for the Green Party candidate Malachy McCourt for Governor. www.LI4MM.com
McCourt leads the statewide ticket of Green Party Peace Slate candidates. “There is no such thing as a just war because in all wars, the majority of people who are killed are innocent,” said McCourt. “We need to resolve our differences and difficulties by peaceful methods.” The Iraq War has had a high cost to Iraqis, to Americans, and specifically to New Yorkers. It has cost the lives of 114 New Yorkers and nearly $24 Billion of New Yorkers’ taxes so far. McCourt’s campaign calls for an immediate withdrawal from Iraq. “Every dollar we send to Washington supports this war, so we must find ways to not send money to Washington”, said McCourt. “Our State Legislature must condemn this war. And we must condemn war as a way of solving problems.”
The Green Party has continually opposed entry into the Iraq war and has consistently called for the immediate return of our troops, in stark contrast to the Democratic and Republican parties. “The Green Party is America’s Peace Party”, says Long Island for Malachy! Co-founder Ian Wilder. “It’s time for the rank and file of America’s Peace Movement to come home to America’s Peace Party: Today we march, tomorrow we vote Green Party.”
“There is also another good reason to vote for Malachy McCourt on the Green Party line,” said Wilder. “The Green Party of New York State needs to get 50,000 votes for Governor in order to regain automatic ballot status. Having automatic ballot status allows a party to run many more candidates. With ballot status in 2001, the Green Party ran over 200 candidates in New York State. Without ballot status in 2005, the Green Party ran only 20 candidates.”
The Babylon Green Party would like to thank singer/songwriter Jill Decker for providing entertainment for our September meeting. Decker is currently working on her long-awaited Turtlehead album. Bob Westcott will be re-scheduled for an upcoming date. The Babylon Green Party is having its next 1st Wednesday of the Month gathering on November 1, 2006 as a Guess the Vote Totals Pre-Election Day Pizza Party; and December 6, 2006 is the annual Green Holiday Party with a Local Musician. For directions to the Babylon Green Gathering, call 422-4702 or email ian.wilder@yahoo.com Children are welcome. All gatherings are Free of Charge, and Open to the Public
