2 weeks from today, Nov. 24 will be the day after Thanksgiving.
What kind of Thanksgiving will it be for the 150,000 US troops stationed in Iraq? Will they be alive? Will they have full use of their limbs, eyes, mental faculties? And what about the Iraqi people?
We must do what we can to seize the momentum of the recent election results to generate an outcry to BRING OUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS HOME FROM IRAQ RIGHT NOW!!
So 2 weeks from today, on the biggest shopping day in America, peace activists are planning a huge demonstration in front of Smithhaven Mall from 2-6pm. There may be other demonstrations at other malls, possibly Roosevelt Field, but that is not definite yet.
Look, we can sit back and have parties and congratulate ourselves on getting the GOP out of the majority in Congress, but that is exactly the wrong approach. We must redouble our efforts and push for an end to US military occupation. We can have signs that say:
DON’T SHOP WHILE THEY DROP!
REPUBLICANS OUT OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE, U.S. OUT OF IRAQ!
RUMMY’S GONE, BUSH AND CHENEY NEXT!
So many possibilities. The day after Thanksgiving is a day off for many people, and college kids will be home to visit. Let’s make this a really big event. With the political wind shifting, even if slight away from the right, we should have opportunities to reach the broader populus even through the corporate media, please pass the word about Friday November 24 at Smithhaven Mall from 2-6pm!
