WRL Office Coordinator

The War Resisters League seeks a self-directed, collaborative and motivated administrator to coordinate and maintain the office of our small but dynamic national organization. As one of the leading radical voices in the anti-war movement, our programs challenge military recruitment, organize nonviolent direct action, and offer on-the-ground education. Our current projects include the Not Your Soldier Project, the Stop the Merchants of Death Program, and a number of local and regional anti-war organizing projects.

This is a full time salaried position. Yearly salary is $35,677, with full benefits, including health insurance, paid vacation and a pension contribution of five percent.  The War Resisters League is an equal opportunity/affirmative action  employer. The office, however, is located on the second floor and thus is not accessible to wheelchairs or people with ambulatory issues. There is an office cat.  WRL is affiliated with War Resisters’ International and International Peace Bureau.

Position Overview:

The full-time Office Coordinator will be responsible for a range of organizational and administrative activities in our National Office. Tasks include coordination, maintenance, and establishment of efficient and consistent office systems. This will be a challenging and exciting role for someone who is passionate about building both a strong organization and an effective antiwar movement, and is committed to the politics of revolutionary nonviolence. The ideal candidate will be responsible, show initiative, work well under pressure, can multitask, give attention to detail, and is adaptable to change.  The position is accountable to the WRL Administrative Coordinating Committee, the Personnel Committee and to other members of the staff collective.

Tasks:

Office Coordination, including but not limited to:

  • Recruitment, coordination and supervision of administrative volunteers
  • Overhaul of antiquated filing systems
  • Regular updates and maintenance to our website and database

Administrative support for different departments and work areas, including but not limited to:

  • Outreach support for organizing staff
  • Point of contact for literature orders and general queries, online and by phone
  • Ordering supplies and maintaining office equipment
  • Helping to sort and distribute mail

Work with Development Coordinator on:

  • Fundraising systems, including our pledge/sustainer program
  • Donor acknowledgement system
  • Work with Bookkeeper on:
  • Managing data entry
  • Processing credit card payments and depositing checks

Qualifications

  • Strong ability to delegate tasks and responsibilities.
  • Commitment to grassroots organizing.
  • Demonstrated comfort with self-initiated work and managing multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Proven ability to work both independently and in close coordination with a team.
  • Computer proficiency, especially knowledge of database programs.
  • Basic knowledge of content management system software
  • Excellent communications skills.
  • Knowledge of, or commitment to learn, current software and databases.
  • Good facilitation skills.
  • Detail-oriented, responsible, and accountable. Familiarity with basic office operations assumed.
  • Familiarity with administrative work, comfortable in a non-hierarchical collaborative office setting.
  • Proven experience in directing a project from conception to completion.
  • Familiarity with the peace and social justice movements. Deep grounding in the history, philosophy and practice of nonviolence.
  • Commitment to nonviolent methods of social and political change.
