Silence
A girl waits in a garden with no voice
Entreaty
She begs me to show her to sing with her eyes
A Lesson
I teach her to break eggs with care
Pleasure
Breaking the soft shell is a comfort to her
Repeat
A girl with no voice waits in a silent garden
Light and sorrow dance in her eyes, begging song
My instruction is careful: we break eggs over a wooden bowl
The breaking, the crackling shell, and our solemn method
become music for her
We sing
