WRL wishes to honor the work of CCR and TASSC by both hearing about their vital campaigns and activities and sharing food and conversation, as we further weave our movements and celebrate our victories. Cocktail party at 6:00 p.m., with sumptuous hors d’oeuvres and wine. Panel discussion and award ceremony at 7:30 p.m. Following the program, we’ll have more time to meet and mingle over dessert and champagne at 9:30 p.m.

The evening will be catered by Pacifeast Catering–WRL New England staffer (and former War Resisters’ International Chair) Joanne Sheehan and her partner Rick Gaumer.

The Center for Constitutional Rights The country’s premiere progressive legal institution, CCR was founded in 1966 to use litigation proactively to change the law for the better and to guarantee the rights of those with the fewest protections and least access to legal resources.

The Torture Abolition and Survivors Support Coalition International The mission of TASSC is to end the practice of torture wherever it occurs and to empower survivors and their families and communities wherever they are. It is the only organization founded by and for torture survivors.

ABOUT WRL Peace Award Intended to honor an organization or person whose work represents the league’s radical nonviolent platform of action, the award was first
given in 1958 to Jeannette Rankin, the only congressperson to vote against U.S. entry into both world wars. Subsequent awardees have included civil rights activists Bayard Rustin and Bob Moses, political folksinger Odetta, poet-priest Daniel Berrigan, military resisters from both Gulf wars, and Fernando Suarez del Solar of Military Families Speak Out, along with groups like Vietnam Veterans Against the War and the Committee for the Rescue and Development of Vieques. Speakers at Peace Award events have included Nobel laureates Martin Luther King Jr. and Pearl S. Buck, poet Allen Ginsberg, and labor organizer A. Philip Randolph.
