CAROLINE DOCTOROW IN INTIMATE ACOUSTIC CONCERT

Nationally renowned Singer-Songwriter from Bridgehampton
to headline Bellport Songwriter Series July 27

The new Bellport Songwriter Series at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Bellport (UUFB) welcomes Caroline Doctorow in a rare acoustic performance on July 27 at 7:00 pm

For several years, the live music and independent recording scenes have blossomed and one Long Island artist who has defined both scenes in the New York area is Caroline Doctorow, whose voice has been described as “part Emmylou Harris, part Victoria Williams”. Her style of contemporary folk blends bluegrass, traditional country, pop, rockabilly, and even some jazz to create a compelling sound.

Also appearing in acoustic performances are Patchogue Singer-Songwriter Jay Scott, who released his first album Homegrown in June after a live recording at the Patchogue Theatre; and The Casuist, the solo project of Graham Capobianco, a Patchogue High School graduate and former member of the UUFB who is lead singer of Drama For The Masses, a Pop/Rock Quintet from Long Island whose new EP is titled Sink Or Swim.

The Bellport Songwriter Series is a monthly Sunday evening concert series run by volunteers as a fund raiser for the UUFB and a showcase for Long Island songwriters who will perform their original songs in an acoustic setting. Suggested Donation $5.00

A fixture on Long Island’s East End music scene for more than two decades, Caroline is the daughter of world-renowned author E. L. Doctorow (Ragtime, Billy Bathgate, The March), who introduced her to Joan Baez when she was young, “Joan took the time to teach me some chords on the guitar. I had already begun to play before I met her, having been inspired by my parents, who had a Weavers-style folk band as a hobby. I remember hearing lots of folk music records that my parents played around the house”. Through five albums that seamlessly mix originals and covers, Doctorow has grown immeasurably as a performer and as a songwriter. “Nothing seems to replace just getting out there and doing it,” she said, “My approach to singing has changed over the years, and what interests me now is a kind of story-telling singing.” Caroline’s latest CD release, Carmel Valley Ride, is a concept record about the 60’s folk duo, Richard and Mimi Fariña. Carmel Valley Ride is Caroline’s third release on Narrow Lane Records, and has received enthusiastic reviews.
