Hi There,

There are two very important events involving Shinnecock this week that I wanted to share with you.

As some of you may know, I have been working very hard the last year and a half on establishing a committee within the Town that would deal specifically with archeology in the Town of Southampton. Well the day for it to be created has come J Tomorrow, Tuesday, July 8th, at the Town Board meeting there will be a public hearing at 1pm to create the cultural resources sub-committee of the Landmarks and Historic Districts Board, which I currently sit on and will be the liaison between both committees. If you happen to have some time, I would love for people to come and show support for the hard work that has gone into this. If you can, maybe say a few words that you are happy the town is taking this important step in acknowledging that our Town is abundant in cultural resources, especially to the Shinnecock. If you aren’t able to make it, please keep me in your thoughts!

Also, this Saturday, July 12th from 11-4pm, will be an Indian Market at the Shinnecock Cultural Center and Museum, 100 Montauk Hwy & West Gate Road, Southampton. Bring yourself, friends and family to mosey around carvings, arts & crafts, Wampum jewelry, and enjoy Shinnecock Oyster refreshments. As always, admission and parking are free. It’s a great, free way to spend a few hours on a Saturday enjoying the company of the first people of the Hamptons J If you have any questions, you can call the museum at 287-4923.

One way or another, I hope to see you in the next few days and I hope you had a great weekend!

Lisa Votino-Tarrant
