Update: SAVE THE DATE: December 29th demonstration in D.C. in support of Muntadhar: here.
KW: Please help me keep vigil over the eloquent, shoe-throwing hero, Muntadhar Al-Zaidi. The Prime Minister of Iraq (who is a friend of George Bush’s) has created unique and wild accusations to try to smear Al-Zaidi. I keep seeking petitions and mechanisms to demand that the world see Al-Zaidi, to know that the Iraqi government is not doing more harm to him. There are links to some petitions: here.
Please stay aware of Muntadhar Al-Zaidi’s court date, and do whatever you can to hold him in your thoughts and advocate for his release.
Article announcing court date is: here.

Dec. 31 trial date set for shoe-hurling Iraqi reporter
The Iraqi reporter who threw his shoes at US President George W. Bush…will stand trial on Dec. 31, a court official said on Monday.
TV journalist Muntazer al-Zeidi is charged with “assaulting a foreign head of state visiting Iraq,” said Abdul Satar Birqadr, spokesman for Iraq’s High Judicial Council.
“The Criminal Court has set a date for trial on Dec. 31 and a three-judge panel will run the hearings,” he said…
The defendant’s lawyer said his client had been severely beaten following the shoe-throwing incident at a Dec. 14 news conference in Baghdad, but Zeidi’s brother said the reporter would do the same again if he had the chance. Uday al-Zeidi said his brother had told an investigative judge on Sunday that he had expected to be shot after hurling his first shoe.
But when that did not happen, “‘that gave me time to throw the second (shoe),’” Zeidi quoted his brother as saying.
