Babylon’s Bellone Missed the Boat on Green Jobs

A few years ago, Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone pushed through a new privetely-owned fossil fuel plant on town plant on town property.  At the time,  I suggested the property would better serve LI’s energy needs by providing training for green jobs, especially solar installers. No wonder it is seven years since I suggested solar panels for the Babylon Town Hall roof while running for Babylon Town Supervisor on the Green Party line, and they are still not in place.

Long Island Business News » Alternative energy training falls short

Kevin B. MacLeod, an electrician and owner of KPS Contracting and KPS Solar, is a green graduate. But don’t look for a green degree in his office. His environmental education has been varied, including a one-week class at Farmingdale State College, courses offered by solar manufacturers off Long Island and time spent on the job, learning a recently emerging trade.

Although there has been much talk about a rise in green-collar jobs, there are few programs offering training in skills, such as installing solar panels.

“I learned a lot working as an apprentice for other contractors, asking questions and studying,” said MacLeod, also the chairman of the Long Island Solar Energy Industry Association. “The industry’s so new, there’s no formalized school where you can go for six months.”

  1. Green Jobs an ongoing debate pre and post Presidential election of USA. Lets get to know what the experts, green companies and individuals from US and other countries are saying on this, only on http://www.justmeans.com , JustMeans is the only platform for everyone to discuss green, social and environmental issues and educate everyone about the advantages related to these sectors. Many experts, energy environmental and social companies and individuals in these sectors share this site to express their thoughts and debate; they are using this site at large. Even in this recession I am able to find at least 40 to 50 new and quality green jobs on JustMeans site and if we compare with other sites then they have an update of only with 5 to 15 jobs a day. Also I would like to mention that JustMeans is a very simple & well designed platform, informative and very good in terms of usability.
