Dr. Rick Staggenborg won the Pacific Green Party of Oregon’s nomination for the U.S. Senate at the party’s convention in Corvallis on Saturday, March 6, 2010. Until recently a psychiatrist at the Bandon Veteran’s Administration Clinic, Staggenborg is a member of Physicians for a National Health Program, the founder of Soldiers for Peace International and author of “Stop the Madness: The Diary of a Soldier For Peace in the War to Take Back America for the People,” an evolving compilation of essays available online. Dr. Staggenborg won the nomination in instant runoff balloting.
Following the nomination, activist singer/songwriter David Rovics performed. The convention engaged in a wide-ranging discussion of organizational needs to mount successful campaigns. Campaign and/or organizational training resources were considered, and two of Wellstone Action’s Camp Wellstone trainings that are scheduled in the Pacific Northwest were recommended for further investigation.
