Caroline Lucas MP, Leader of the Green Party of England and Wales, and Member of Parliament for Brighton Pavilion; is like a breath of fresh air on the dusty, cobweb-ridden Houses of Parliament. 1. Thanks for mentioning (& linking) my post about Caroline Lucas MP on your blog. Quite flattered.

    What did you think?

Also, a quick cheeky question; where did you find out about the post? Because assuming from your blog content you are from America! :) thanks again!

  2. There is no English parliament. Unfortunately.

  3. That is true, did not see your mistake there!

It would be grateful if it was changed :)

  4. @ Daniel: I have a automatic tag search for “green party”.

@ Wyrdtimes & Daniel: Should it be British instead of English?

  5. It’s complicated. Westminster is the UK parliament.

However Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland all have their own devolved parliaments or assemblies. England does not.

Lots of issues, such as Education, Health, Transport, Forestry etc are now the responsibility of those devolved assemblies.

The UK parliament has control of reserved UK wide issues such as welfare and defence. Plus those devolved issues for (only) England.

So it’s a big problem that England is ruled by the UK parliament which contains Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs as well as English MPs.

It leaves us in a situation where Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs can vote on English Education, Health (often to the detriment of the people of England) etc but not on those issues in their own constituencies. Very unfair.

Particularly insulting because England practically invented parliamentary democracy and now it’s one of the only countries in the world without it’s own parliament.

There’s trouble brewing in old England.

  6. Caroline Lucas night describe her party as of England and Wales but as an English MP she cannot vote on green issues in Wales. However, a Welsh Green MP is still allowed to vote on English affairs.
It’s known as the” west lothian question”.
