8/24/2011: Long Island Traffic situation – Sunrise Highway, North of 231 (West of Little Eastneck Road)

Long Island Press reports that the traffic is due to police investigating a fatal accident West of Little East Neck Road. Story: here.

If you must go or are going Westbound on Sunrise, your best bet appears to be to get off at Exit 40, Rt. 231, and take the service road.

Update at 6:40pm – Things look better on Deer Park Avenue North, though, as of sometime after 6:30pm, there were still reports of lanes being closed by Little Eastneck Road near Sunrise Highway.

Update on accident – Newsday reports that the accident and investigation happened because a woman died when her car stopped suddenly on Sunrise Highway, and she was hit by a truck. Very sad.

_________________________

For anyone on the road, wondering. Outside our window on Deer Park Avenue, traffic is sooo backed up. So, went to investigate. There was an accident on Sunrise Highway. I cannot see it, but it is north of 231, north of Deer Park Avenue, and north of Hubbard’s Path — at Little Eastneck Road.

It is very backed up going North on Deer Park Avenue from Sunrise to Southern State. Try to avoid Sunrise for awhile. (It is 5:51pm on Wednesday, August 24th.)

Photos and video from 5:45ish pm. (It is better now):
