Occupy Wall Street: Sunday morning update…

For Sunday, October 30th update, go: here.
_______________

Update on Sunday, 9/25/2011 at 5:58 am:

Had insomnia. Wanted to be useful, so I watched the Occupy Wall Street video feed. There had been a rumor that at 10pm last night, something would happen. But, I watched until about 11pm, and all was pretty calm. Now it is 5:44 am on Sunday. There are a lot of people sleeping. A few people wandering around enjoying the scene, and the poster display. And, this group clustered around the lights and video doing Live Streaming.

Interesting stuff happening:

-They are reporting that they are getting their financial act together, to make sure they have an infrastructure to continue the occupation. They have some funds, but can’t access much until next business day – Monday. (So, I guess if you are passing by Wall Street today, consider donating cash).

-You can send supplies to a local UPS store for them to pick up: UPS Store 118A Fulton St #205New York, NY, 10038

-They want vegetables, but you have to bring them in person. You can’t send perishables via the UPS method.

-Luke Richardson from the Media Group had been in jail last night, with requests to call for his release. He is out of jail and talking on LiveStream.

-Somewhere between 80 and 100 people were arrested yesterday. People have been most upset by the use of pepper spray on 5 women — Newsgirl says 4 in one cluster, and another woman by herself.)

-There is talk of setting up a reading library at Liberty Square and/or creating a zine with the Occupy Wall Street community. Luke from NJ and Newsgirl (Victoria from Brooklyn, via Maryland) are on the Live Stream discussing the possibility. Newsgirl says that creating a zine, or other physical artifact, is a conversation that is bubbling up in some of the committee discussions.

-People are excited that the Occupy Wall Street protest is on the front page of The Daily News. Folks were holding the paper up last night and this morning, taking pictures, and reading headlines on the Live Feed. A big news station was there this morning (I think Channel 7?)

-On the Live Stream, they are suggesting other countries and areas that should become Occupied. Someone says, “Occupy Everything”.

-Update – late in the morning, author Chris Hedges came by and had an excellent and inspiring long interview.

-Update at 12:24pm – interview with Medea Benjamin of Code Pink (Global Exchange, etc.) [The Wilders are not political fans of Medea Benjamin…but…] Medea Benjamin said that she is excited about a potential primary challenger to Obama from the left. She said she may support a third party candidate in the 2012 Presidential Race. She suggested that those people who have been let down by the current President, need to consider staying away and not helping or donating to the campaign.

-Talking about need for community outreach.

-Talking about need to think about fall weather coming on.

-Medical Team is speaking. They need water. Cloth Medical Tape. Space Blankets. You can drop off or send to UPS Store. (They asked for OFF! for Mosquitos. I am not happy about that. Chemicals. Ew! Get mosquito stuff from health food store.)

-As previously posted here, the group came up with “one demand” the other day. Here is the document, posted at onthewilderside: here.
