Long Island Occupy Events: Join your neighbors on Feb 29th to Occupy The Banks

Here are two Long Island Occupy events and one NYC event I know of that coincide with the 2/29/12 National Day of Action: Shut Down The Corporations called for by Occupy Oakland.

Shirley February 29th
Meet at Chase Bank, 645 William Floyd Pkwy, Shirley,NY 11967

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
4:45pm – 5:45pm

JP Morgan Chase – one of the largest recipients of TARP funds – has foreclosed on thousands of homes in Suffolk County since being bailed out with our tax dollars and still refuses to re-finance many mortgages so our neighbors can stay in their homes. Come join us for an hour to protest the collusion of Wall St, the banks and our government, which ruined our economy!

For info on Shirley event, you can contact Terri at (631) 591-1945 home OR (631) 624-4938

Huntington Village
Meet at Bank of America, 250 Main Street

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
4:00 pm – 6:00 pm

From Bank of America, march along Main St. with your friends and neighbors to show your opposition to The American Legislative Exchange Council and other groups that help corporations buy our government.

New York, New York
Meet at Bryant Park, 41st and 5th Ave, Manhattan, NYC

Wednesday, February 29, 2012
9:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Occupy Portland calls for a national day of non-violent direct action to reclaim our voices and challenge our society’s obsession with profit and greed by shutting down the corporations. We are rejecting a society that does not allow us control of our future. We will reclaim our ability to shape our world in a democratic, cooperative, just and sustainable direction.

We call on people to target corporations that are part of the American Legislative Exchange Council which is a prime example of the way corporations buy off legislators and craft legislation that serves the interests of corporations and not people. They used it to create the anti-labor legislation in Wisconsin and the racist bill SB 1070 in Arizona among so many others. They use ALEC to spread these corporate laws around the country

Here is some info on the national tie-ins for February 29th actions:

Some info from the F29 post at OccupyWallSt.org:

Simultaneously, European trade unions have declared Feb. 29th a European Day of Action against austerity, following massive demonstrations against budget cuts in Greece, Spain, Belgium, and elsewhere. Decentralized actions in all 27 European Union nations and beyond will be “sending a clear message to the EU leaders: this imposed austerity is going to plunge Europe into a recession!”
