The New York State Legislature is divided into two parts: The NY State Senate and the NY State Assembly. Here in Riverhead, we are part of the newly redistricted Assembly District 2, which covers all of Riverhead and some of eastern Brookhaven. The current, incumbent, Assembly Member is Republican, Jodi Giglio.
So far, these are the only candidates who have announced for the NY Assembly District Two race for 2026:
Republican and Conservative line: Jodi Giglio
Democratic line: Michael Szika
Seeking an independent line called “Voter Options”: Kimberly Wilder
Some notes:
Jodi Giglio and Michael Szika are definitely on the ballot for their respective parties. There will be no primary for NY Assembly District 2 this year.
Kimberly Wilder is in the process of a petition drive. Wilder will need 1,500 signatures, submitted to the Suffolk County Board of Elections, in order to have a place on the ballot.
You may get information and receive updates at Ballotpedia. It appears that Ballotpedia does not put up petitioning candidates until they get on the ballot.
Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
