Don’t Buy More War

The people voted in November 2006 to end the war in Iraq, yet Congress is poised to approve another $93 billion, and then yet another $145 billion, for war. Join us to stop them from making this terrible mistake!

In the days and months to come, Congress will be debating and voting on Bush’s war budget requests, starting with an emergency supplemental on March 14. You need to ask your member of Congress to step out of the Fog of War into a Profile of Courage moment by voting NO on these supplemental appropriations.

Today, Wednesday, March 7, is CODEPINK‘s call-in day.

Here’s what you can do:
— Call the Congressional Switchboard at 888.851.1879 and ask for the office of your Representative. If your member of Congress is not available, ask to talk to the foreign policy advisor. If you can’t speak to anyone on the phone, leave a voicemail urging your Congressperson to vote NO on the supplemental appropriations. Find your member of Congress here.

Email a letter to your Representative telling him or her to stop buying Bush’s war. We won’t stop at phone calls and emails. Today, we are launching our broad and exciting Don’t Buy Bush’s War Campaign. We need to flood the offices, halls, sidewalks and streets of Congress with people opposed to the war from now through this Fall. We’re asking for your help to get people to Washington DC and to do similar actions locally.

In Washington, we will bang pots and pans; we will deliver “wake up” coffee to Congress; we will stage a “Stop Buying War” revival with Reverend Billy; we will attend every Congressional Budget Hearing with messages like Books Not Bombs; we will make our presence known in numerous and powerful ways to impress upon Congress the cost of war in our communities.

We need and welcome YOUR ideas. We’ll provide the props, we’ll help with housing, we even have a limited number of travel stipends. So PLEASE help us by joining in and activating your colleagues, friends and family by circulating this letter widely, blogging, and finding other creative ways to get the word out! To sign up for DC actions click here. Or sign up to be in action with your local congressional member with Occupation Project.

We’re at a historic crossroads right now. Either Congress will allow this war to drag on for years, wreaking havoc that will spread throughout the Middle East, or we end the war in 2007 by pressuring Congress to defund the war and fully fund the safe and orderly withdrawal of our troops. Let’s work together to choose the second path, the path of peace.

With hope and determination,
Dana, Farida, Gael, Gayle, Jodie, Liz, Medea, Nancy, Patricia, Rae, Samantha, and Sonia
