KW: As some of you may know, there is a healthy rivalry between the Green Party and the Working Families Party (WFP) in New York. Both are third parties that probably consider themselves “progressive.” (Well, the Green Party in NY is technically an “independent political body”, with not as many powers as a party.) The Green Party has a pillar of non-violence, and has been disappointed when the WFP has endorsed candidates such as Hillary Clinton for Senate. The Green Party is mostly committed to independence and mostly to running our own candidates. The Working Families Party mostly does cross-endorsements – sometimes for Democrats, sometimes for Republicans, often for the incumbent in a race. Many Greens would say that the Working Families Party is mostly a funnel back towards the Democratic Party.
So, that makes this news interesting:

January 16th, 2009According to New York State campaign spending reports, last year Governor David A. Paterson donated $25,000 to the New York State Working Families Party.
