Bob Westcott

Guitarist Bob Westcott is no stranger to Long Island audiences.  His career began as a teenager playing guitar in the streets and basket houses of Greenwich Village, and, more auspiciously, as one of the very first members of the Wes Houston Band.

He then moved to Manchester, England to explore the British folk scene, then traveled throughout Canada and the US in the 70’s, living in the Midwest, California and upstate New York before settling on eastern Long Island.

More recently, he has morphed into ‘Pops’, the arthritic and acerbic guitar god of The Defibrillators.  He plays bass in the topical group Blacklisted and the Banned, and has delved into the music of Memphis with a ‘folkabilly’ outfit called The Daydreamers.

His first album Rollin’ Along still finds frequent use in many a CD player.  His CD Wherever You Go is beautifully crafted, an exploration of instrumental destinations which is “well-grounded and substantial, yet delicate and airy… an appealing choice for any fan of melodic instrumental music.”   His astonishing guitar playing and universally resonant songwriting have made him a perennial favorite on the Long Island scene and he impresses audiences wherever he goes.
For his debut Song Box performance, songwriter, guitarist, bandleader, and Bob’s good friend Wes Houston showcases his songs as never before.  Together with acoustic bass accompanist Steve Hawk and drummer Ray Forgione, Wes presents his original songs stripped down to their basics.

Wes is the host/producer of Wes Houston Presents, an award winning cable TV music show.  He has recorded albums for Folkways Records as well as other independent labels.  His recordings are included in a Grammy nominated/award winning 5-CD boxed set entitled The Best of Broadside, which was released in 2001 by the Smithsonian Institute.

A veteran of the New York area music scene, Wes has played thousands of shows in every venue, including college concerts, performing arts series and nightclubs.

Wes Houston is a recent recipient of The Long Island Sound Award (L.I.S.A.).  Steve Hawk has been playing bass since the 1970’s and is a former member of the Wes Houston Band.  Ray Forgione has been playing drums since the 1970’s and has been a member of the Wes Houston Band since 1985.

This month’s show marks the 10th anniversary of The Song Box house concert series (Happy birthday to us…).  The show will be held at a private residence in Seaford (south shore Nassau County).  Seating is limited to about 35.  A pot-luck buffet is served during the break between performers – bring something if you’re feeling creative.  Please make advance reservations by sending an email to songbox@optonline.net.  You will be sent a confirmation and directions via return email.  Reservations can also be made at (516) 579-5365.  Leave a message with your name and phone # and we’ll call you back to confirm and give you directions.
