Your Senator votes for death penalty…and against innocence!!! Action needed!

New Yorkers Against the Death Penalty
   www.nyadp.org

Dear Abolitionists:

On Tuesday, Your New York State Senator voted for Bill S 319–a bill to reinstate the death penalty.

Not only this, but he actually also voted AGAINST an amendment intended to address New York’s shameful record of wrongful convictions by providing some rudimentary reforms.

6 men have been found innocent in New York in the past 13 months after spending, wrongfully, up to 20 years in prison. It is unconscionable that our Senators would vote down legislation that would ensure that more innocents do not have their lives destroyed by a flawed system, at the same time that they are bringing back the possibility that such innocents may be put to death.

Is your Senator reflecting your values, your beliefs about what constitutes justice, the type of world you want to see created in the future? If not, are you willing to go beyond tacitly supporting the death penalty through silence, to demand that executions are not brought back to New York?

The question is, what is the next step? Obviously, contacting your Senator and Assemblyperson, letting them know you do NOT approve of their actions is key. Get loud!!! Call them! Write them! (their contact info is below)Especially for those Senators who went above and beyond in advocating the death penalty, such as Carl Marcellino, they need to hear from you!

But beyond this, I think we need to strategize the future of our movement. During this summer, I will be working with you to create informal meetings that will bring us together, broaden our outreach, enhance our impact in our communities, and give you more resources to promote abolition. If you would like ot host one of these meetings in your neighborhood, contact me ASAP.

In unity,
Colleen
