Babylon Green Party: LI Folk Legend Bob Westcott 9/5/07

LI Folk Legend Bob Westcott

LI Folk Legend Bob WestcottOn Wednesday, September 5, 2007 at 7pm, the Babylon Green Party will host songwriter Bob Westcott, who has been called the “real deal”, and for good reason: Westcott has been performing his elegant finger style guitar work for over 30 years. The new location for the Babylon Green Party gathering is at Pisces Cafe, 14A Railroad Avenue, Babylon, NY (631-321-1231) www.piscescafe.net (map) Come hungry!

When Westcott performed the Babylon Greens two years ago it was an intimate livingroom concert. He gave a unique performance that combined rambling personal reminiscences with impromptu set changes. Westcott’s upcoming show at the Pisces Cafe allows him a wide open range of possibilities to choose from in his musical palette. Will he bring along his new acoustic amp to brandish his well-known folkie side, or will he bring out the red Gretsch he picked up in the last few years to go Dylan-at-Newport? The only way to know is to be there.

Westcott has a depth of musical, and life, experience to draw upon. During the 60’s, he played in the basket houses of Greenwich Village, then moved to Manchester, England to explore the British Folk Scene. During the 70’s, Westcott traveled throughout Canada and the US, living in the Midwest, California and Upstate NY before settling on Eastern Long Island. His astonishing finger style guitar work and universally resonant songwriting have made him a perennial favorite on the Long Island scene, and his debut album Rollin’ Along captures that beautifully.

His latest CD release, Wherever You Go, is a beautifully crafted exploration of instrumental destinations. Quite different from his first album, it transports the listener to aural landscapes of peace and serenity. Westcott’s performances are peppered with stories about his personal experiences, his travels and travails. He is also a Long Island Music Award nominee. Westcott has opened for several nationally-known performers, including John Hammond, Merle Haggard, Richie Havens, Tom Paxton, The Nields, and most recently, Richard Shindell. Westcott will also be performing solo for the Eclectic Cafe on Saturday, September 8, 2007 at the Bay Shore Unitarian Church. www.eclecticcafe.org Westcott’s Annual Holiday Revue is a wildly popular event in which he presents his personal favorite musicians to the Folk Music Society audience. This year’s Revue is scheduled for Saturday , December 15, 2007. www.fmshny.org He also performs as a member of the super groups The Defibrillators www.thedefibrillators.com and Blacklisted & the Banned www.sonnymeadows.com Blacklisted has just released their debut album, “I Never Thought I’d Miss Richard Nixon.” The album is available at www.cdbaby.com.

The October 3, 2007 gathering will be an update on on the 2007 election The November 7, 2007 gathering will an update on the Broadwater Project with Maureen Dolan Of Citizens Campaign for the Environment www.citizenscampaign.org.
